Malaga’s Axarquia, whose capital is Vélez-Málaga, rises from the sea to heights that reach 2000 meters and are populated with vines and olive trees.

The region offers the traveler a range of alternative routes through this area: the Route of the Sun and the Avocado, by the municipalities of Macharaviaya, Rincón de la Victoria, Iznate, Vélez-Málaga, Benamocarra and Benamargosa; Route of the Sun and of the Wine, that includes the localities of Algarrobo, Sayalonga, Canillas de Albaida, Competa, Torrox, Nerja and Frigiliana; Route of the Pass, by Totalán, Moclinejo, Almáchar, El Borge and Comares; And the Route of the Oil and the Montes, crossing the towns of Colmenar, Riogordo, Alfarnatejo, Alfarnate, Periana, Viñuela and Alcaucín.
